Goethe University Frankfurt, also known as Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, was founded in 1914 as a citizen’s university. It was initially named the University of Frankfurt am Main, and its establishment was motivated by the desire to establish a liberal alternative to the traditionally conservative universities in Germany. The university has a long history of academic excellence, and it has produced many distinguished scholars and Nobel Prize winners, including Max Born, Paul Ehrlich, and Max von Laue. During World War II, the university was heavily damaged, and much of its infrastructure was destroyed. It was rebuilt in the post-war period and has since become one of the most renowned universities in Germany, known for its strong research focus and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. Today, Goethe University Frankfurt has over 45,000 students and offers various degree programs in various fields, including law, medicine, economics, and humanities.
