The International Court of Justice is seeking applications from recent law graduates worldwide for its 2024-2025 Judicial Fellowship Programme. This program, previously called the University Traineeship Programme, offers participants the opportunity to gain professional experience by working at the International Court of Justice.

The program focuses on giving participants hands-on experience in public international law and familiarizing them with the Court’s procedures. Judicial Fellows work full-time under the guidance of a Court Member, supporting their primary legal assistant.

Requirements and eligibility criteria for International Court of Justice Judicial Fellowship Programme 2024/2025:

  • Age requirement: Candidates should be 31 years old or younger at the start of their fellowship, with exceptions considered in special cases.
  • Academic excellence: Demonstrate outstanding performance in legal studies and a keen interest in public international law through academic achievements, publications, or work experience.
  • Language proficiency: Have strong written and oral skills in at least one of the Court’s official languages (English or French). Proficiency in the other language is beneficial.

Application Procedure for International Court of Justice Judicial Fellowship Programme 2024/2025 (How to apply);

Submission requirements for the Judicial Fellowship Programme:

  • Complete an online pre-screening questionnaire by the nominating university.
  • The university should appoint an authorized focal point to handle all application materials.

Submit the following six documents for each candidate through the university’s authorized focal point via email, following this order:

a. Official letter of nomination from the university
b. ICJ personal history form
c. Letters of reference
d. Official academic records
e. Writing sample
f. Candidate profile summary table
