The President’s Doctoral Scholar Award is an extraordinary chance for outstanding students worldwide to embark on a journey of groundbreaking research alongside esteemed academics. The successful recipients of the PDS Award will receive an annual stipend at the UKRI rate, along with a £1,000 stipend enhancement. Requirements and eligibility criteria for President’s Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Award 2024 at University of Manchester:
- Hold a conditional/unconditional offer for a PhD program starting in September 2024.
- Hold (or be on track to obtain) a first-class honors undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Ideally, hold a master’s-level qualification with merit or distinction (or international equivalent).
- Demonstrate a track record of research engagement, which may include contributions to publications/articles, dissemination of research to a wider audience, or recognition through prizes for research or project work.
- Must be interested in participating in exclusive events designed to facilitate interactions with the academic community and network with other PDS award holders.

To be considered for the President’s Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Award:
- Complete the standard admissions process and receive a conditional/unconditional offer for a PhD program.
- Submit an online PhD application.
- Indicate your intention to apply for the PDS Award in the funding section of the application form.
- Review potential projects and supervisors and follow instructions for submitting an online PhD application.
- All PDS applications will undergo internal review.
- Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed before final funding offers are made.
- Interviews are expected to occur in mid-March 2024.
