The President’s Doctoral Scholar Award is an extraordinary chance for outstanding students worldwide to embark on a journey of groundbreaking research alongside esteemed academics. The successful recipients of the PDS Award will receive an annual stipend at the UKRI rate, along with a £1,000 stipend enhancement. Requirements and eligibility criteria for President’s Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Award 2024 at University of Manchester:

  • Hold a conditional/unconditional offer for a PhD program starting in September 2024.
  • Hold (or be on track to obtain) a first-class honors undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Ideally, hold a master’s-level qualification with merit or distinction (or international equivalent).
  • Demonstrate a track record of research engagement, which may include contributions to publications/articles, dissemination of research to a wider audience, or recognition through prizes for research or project work.

To be considered for the President’s Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Award:

  • Complete the standard admissions process and receive a conditional/unconditional offer for a PhD program.
  • Submit an online PhD application.
  • Indicate your intention to apply for the PDS Award in the funding section of the application form.
  • Review potential projects and supervisors and follow instructions for submitting an online PhD application.
  • All PDS applications will undergo internal review.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed before final funding offers are made.
  • Interviews are expected to occur in mid-March 2024.
