Suitably qualified professional and student journalists whose creativity, accuracy, balance and the positive portrayal of labour migration includes the multidimensional aspects of migrant workers’ lives are welcomed to submit application for the 2022 International Labour Organization (ILO) Global Media Competition where winners will be selected by a panel of experts in international migration and journalism.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) Global Media Competition is the eighth edition of the International Labour Organization initiative aimed to recognize fair and balanced reports that contribute to the elimination of xenophobia and discrimination against migrant workers. In addition to that, the competition contributes to support the production of quality reporting and raising awareness about labour migration, which is a topic that features strongly in the United Nations Declaration on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015. Winners are selected by a panel of experts in international migration and journalism, and announced every year on 18 December which is international Migrants day.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social and economic justice through setting international labour standards. Founded in October 1919 under the League of Nations and it is considered to be the first and oldest specialized agency of the UN with over 187 member states: 186 out of 193 UN member states and the Cook Islands. The agency is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with over 40 field offices around the world, and employs approximately 3,381 staff across 107 nations, of whom 1,698 work in technical cooperation programmes and projects.
