The 2023 JournalismAI Fellowship by the London School of Economics & Political Science is a groundbreaking, no-cost online initiative. The JournalismAI Fellowship Programme empowers participants to spearhead their projects and oversee their execution over a six-month duration. Throughout this period, they will benefit from expert guidance and support from the JournalismAI team, as well as regular meetings with their fellow fellows. To ensure success, each team will have a dedicated mentor provided by JournalismAI. Furthermore, fellows will be connected to a global network of AI-journalism experts, researchers, and innovators, to whom JournalismAI has access. This network serves as an invaluable resource, providing fellows with a platform to share ideas, collaborate, and draw inspiration from some of the brightest minds in the field.
Over the course of the next six months, teams will be guided through the various stages of ideation, prototyping, and evaluation. Through the JournalismAI Fellowship Programme, fellows will collaborate on developing cutting-edge AI-powered tools that enhance reporting and storytelling. The Fellowship is designed to enable participants to balance their current work commitments while dedicating eight hours per week to the program. To facilitate progress, teams will have access to vital resources such as financial assistance to cover necessary project expenses. Moreover, they will receive support and guidance from seasoned professionals within the JournalismAI community to ensure their success.

The JournalismAI Fellowship Programme fosters an environment where fellows can unleash their creativity, unencumbered by their daily responsibilities. The program equips participants with the skills and knowledge to develop AI-powered concepts that drive innovation in journalism. Throughout the program, fellows will expand their understanding of AI technologies’ potential for journalism, building an international network of like-minded news innovators. They will also create a prototype of their AI-powered solution, learning new methods and skills to experiment and prototype new ideas. Moreover, they will develop their thinking about the role of technology in journalism, experiencing the power of international collaboration. In addition, the program nurtures trust between editorial and technical teams in participants’ organizations, enabling them to gain fresh perspectives from a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment. They will learn about a range of AI-powered tools available for news organizations and share their learnings with the global JournalismAI community. Upon completion of the program, participants will be better equipped to leverage AI technologies to advance their careers and contribute to their organization’s digital transformation
Requirements and eligibility criteria for London School Of Economics & Political Science JournalismAI Fellowship 2023:
- A group of up to 30 journalists and technologists will be chosen to form the 2023 Fellowship cohort. These individuals will spend six months collaborating to create AI-powered tools to improve journalism from June to December.
- Applications are invited from candidates working in news organizations anywhere in the world.
- Applicants need to have some experience working on products and/or stories that involve the use of AI technologies.
