Requirements and eligibility criteria for Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2024:
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
- Residency: Must be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
Work Experience: Have a minimum of five years full-time or equivalent part-time relevant work experience in a profession related to the subject of the Fellowship program, by the proposed start of the fellowship. Voluntary work experience will not be considered. - Employment: Must be currently employed by an organization they will return to upon completion of the Fellowship.
- References: Provide at least two references, with one being from their current employer.
- Previous Fellowships: Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years (at the time of taking up the award).
- Academic Programs: Not seeking to undertake an academic research or study program. Academics can apply for academic management programs but not research or courses relevant to their research subject.
- Availability: Must be available to start and complete their fellowship within the prescribed dates.

Application Procedure for Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2024 (How to apply);
To apply for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships, interested candidates must complete an online application form and submit all required information by the application deadline.
The fellowships will be available for a period of six weeks to three months, starting in February 2024.
All fellowships in the 2023/24 round are focused on approved thematic areas, and applicants must be professionals working on related issues.
In the application form, prospective fellows will be asked to:
- List their undergraduate and postgraduate university qualifications.
- Mention up to 10 publications and prizes (if applicable).
- Provide details of their employment history and explain how each job is relevant to the proposed fellowship in the UK (up to 100 words per employment).
Include a statement on the relevance of their previous work experience to the proposed fellowship (up to 300 words). - Provide names and positions of up to three referees who can comment on their capacity to benefit from the fellowship and deliver development impact afterward. One of the referees must be their current employer.
- Submit a Development Impact statement, which should include:
- Explanation of how the proposed Fellowship relates to reducing reliance on fossil fuels, lowering air pollution rates, or promoting marine conservation, aligning with the aims of COP 26 and SDGs 7, 13, and 14.
- Description of development issues at the global, national, and local levels.
Connection of development issues to the theme of climate change and the wider sector. - Applicants should carefully complete the application, highlighting their expertise and commitment to addressing critical global development challenges, particularly those related to climate change and sustainability.
