International Monetary Fund (IMF) Economist Program 2025

The IMF Economist Program is a three-year program with two eighteen-month positions, aimed at recent PhD graduates wishing to enhance their economics careers. Participants will enable individuals to provide meaningful contributions on a global level in monetary cooperation, international trade liberalization, financial system soundness, employment, economic growth, and poverty alleviation. Requirements and eligibility criteria;
- Completed or expected to complete a PhD within a year of joining
- Fields of study: Macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, trade, poverty issues, political economy, econometrics, or related areas
- Must be a national of an IMF member country
- Age below 34 at the time of entry into the program
- Excellent academic record
- Proven analytical, quantitative, and IT skills
- Interest and ability to work in an international organization and contribute to economic policy
- Strong written and oral English skills

Application Procedures (How to apply);
To apply for the IMF Economist Program 2025, submit your application online through the IMF Career Site. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed between October and January, and final offers will be made in early February.
The selection process has four main stages:
- Shortlisted candidates will have a 30-40 minute preliminary interview to discuss their research and answer questions on economic topics and communication skills.
- Candidates may be asked to provide a recent university transcript, three academic references, and a research paper or dissertation chapter.
- Successful candidates will attend an in-person panel interview, take a 40-minute psychometric assessment, and complete a 90-minute written exam.
- A senior internal committee will review all candidates reaching this stage before final selections are made and offers are sent out.
