TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme 2025 for Researchers

Suitably qualified researchers from developing countries are invited to apply for the TWAS-UNESCO Joint Associateship Scheme. This program developed in cooperation with UNESCO and several centers of excellence in the South provides young impressive scientists with an excellent possibility to join and do PhD studies at the best institutions.

As an associate, you’ll be appointed for three years, with the chance to visit a hosting center twice, each time for a period of 2 to 3 months. During these visits, TWAS covers your travel expenses, while the host institution provides accommodation, food, and research facilities. You’ll also receive a monthly contribution of USD 300 to assist with incidental expenses.

The program was developed to reverse what was regarded as an adverse phenomenon in the Third World, namely the brain drain, and to support sustained research partnerships. The selection is rigorous and based on merit with special consideration being made to scientists in isolation institutions and women scientists respectively.

If you are selected you will become part of a network of nearly 300 COEs in the South thereby improving your access to some of the best resources available to support your research.
