Women Digital Entrepreneurship Program {WDEP} 2023
The Women Digital Entrepreneurship Program (WDEP) for 2023 is an initiative by Access Corporation that seeks to equip Nigerian businesswomen with the necessary tools and skills to digitize their operations, thereby ensuring the long-term prosperity and competitiveness of their businesses.
The program is designed to cater to both new and experienced female entrepreneurs in Nigeria, providing them with training and resources to facilitate the growth of their online businesses. The goals of the program include inspiring more women to start online businesses, advocating for the interests of female business owners, closing the gender gap in the digital space, and boosting the financial success of women.
The Women Digital Entrepreneurship Program (WDEP) is a relatively new initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women, particularly in the digital space. The program was launched in 2017 by the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, in partnership with the European Union. WDEP was created in response to the need for greater gender parity in the technology and digital sectors, as well as to address the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in accessing finance, market linkages, and information and communication technologies (ICTs). The program provides training and capacity building to women entrepreneurs in developing countries, with a focus on enhancing their digital and entrepreneurial skills, and connecting them to relevant networks and resources.

Since its inception, WDEP has provided support to hundreds of women entrepreneurs in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda, among others. The program has also helped to raise awareness and advocacy for gender-inclusive entrepreneurship and digital innovation policies and programs.
WDEP’s impact and success have led to its expansion, with the program being integrated into other development initiatives and partnerships, including the SheTrades Initiative, which aims to connect three million women entrepreneurs to market by 2021, and the Digital Transformation Centres (DTCs), which are hubs that provide digital skills training and support to businesses and individuals. Overall, the Women Digital Entrepreneurship Program has played a crucial role in empowering women entrepreneurs in the digital space, promoting gender-inclusive policies and programs, and driving economic growth and development in developing countries.
