The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is now accepting applications for its 2024 Fellowship Program, offering a monthly stipend of USD 3,000 to young African professionals.

ECA is a United Nations organization with a mandate on Africa that has the responsibility of promoting the socio-economic development of the continent. Based on the fact that ECA is a UN agency hence a regional institution it is in a vantage position to support member States in ensuring that they come up with solutions to their development challenges.

Requirements and Eligibility Criteria ECA Fellowship 2024 for Young African Professionals

  • Must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
  • Must be a national of a Member State of the Economic Commission for Africa.
  • Must have graduated before 1 July 2024 with a master’s or doctorate, or equivalent.
  • Should have an interest in one or more of the identified thematic areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a predefined project contributing to the work program of the mentoring Division, Sub-Regional Office, or ECA Centres.
  • Participate in national, regional, or international meetings as assigned.
  • Submit and present a peer-reviewed research paper at the end of the assignment.
  • Join the alumni association of ECA Fellows and the international development “community of practice.”

Fellowship Benefits:

  • One-off settling-in grant of USD 3,000 (for fellows recruited from outside of the duty station).
  • Monthly stipend of USD 3,000 for the duration of the fellowship.
