Are you an outstanding Nigerian students who wish to pursue academic career to the next level? The Jim Ovia Scholars Program is currently accepting applications from highly motivated and exceptional Nigerian students.
The program, which has been in existence since 1998, is fully funded by Mr. Jim Ovia, and it aims to provide financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate Nigerian youths. Formerly known as the MUSTE scholarship, eligible recipients of the scholarship will receive full support for their undergraduate studies throughout the duration of their program. This support includes tuition and maintenance allowances. Each year, approximately 100 new applicants are offered the opportunity to participate in the scholarship program, while existing recipients who meet all the eligibility requirements are supported annually through the renewal process. Since October 2010, Mr. Jim Ovia has invested over 100 million Naira in the program, providing financial aid to over 1500 beneficiaries and continuing to do so.
The Jim Ovia Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Jim Ovia, a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, in 2004. The foundation is dedicated to supporting education and youth empowerment initiatives in Nigeria and across Africa. Jim Ovia is the founder of Zenith Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest and most successful banks, and has been a vocal advocate for education and youth development in Africa. Through the foundation, he has provided scholarships, mentorship, and other forms of support to young people in Nigeria and other African countries.

The foundation’s flagship program is the Jim Ovia Scholarship, which provides financial support to outstanding Nigerian students who wish to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in any field of their choice, both in Nigeria and overseas. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded scholarships to over 1,500 students, many of whom have gone on to excel in their academic and professional careers. The foundation also supports other education and youth empowerment initiatives, including the ICT-Education initiative, which aims to improve access to technology and digital education for young people in Nigeria, and the Empower Youth Program, which provides skills training and entrepreneurship support to young people. In order to be eligible for Jim Ovia Scholars Program for Nigerian Students 2023 at Universities in Nigeria, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The scholarship is open to all potential students of Nigerian citizens in a Nigerian institution.
- One hundred (100) awardees are selected each year from a pool of eligible applicants.
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of personal intellectual ability, leadership capability and a desire to contribute to society at large to improve the lives of others.
