As a key statutory committee, the Audit Committee provides oversight and advisory support to the National Treasury (NT), Accounting Standards Board (ASB), Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC), and Co-operative Banks Development Agency (CBDA), as well as the Accounting Officer/Authority and the Executive Authority, in line with the Public Finance Management Act.

Requirements and eligibility criteria;

  • Chartered Accountant (SAICA), Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Certified Internal Auditor (IIA), or Registered Government Auditor (SAIGA) designation.
    NQF level 8 qualification in Accounting, Internal Auditing, Auditing, or Risk Management.
  • Experience in a senior management and/or oversight role.
  • Knowledge or experience in:
  • Corporate Governance in the Public Sector
  • Internal Auditing
  • Public Sector External Auditing
  • Public Sector Accounting
  • Compliance Management
  • Risk Management
  • Experience in participating in governance structures and serving on Audit Committees.
    Ability to dedicate time to Audit Committee activities.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Coordinate assurance efforts to ensure comprehensive coverage and effective use of audit resources.
  • Review the adequacy and effectiveness of governance processes, risk management, internal controls, and information systems.
  • Examine annual financial statements and performance reports before final approval.
  • Review significant incidents of a criminal or irregular nature.
  • Provide oversight on Risk Management and Compliance with laws and regulations.
