Michigan State University (MSU) Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship
The African Studies Center is pleased to welcome suitably qualified international African students who are studying at Michigan State University (MSU) and are looking to travel to Africa for research to submit application for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship worth about $2,000 in funding.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship is worth up to $2,000 to support international African students who are looking to travel to Africa for research. The award is in honor of the former Nigerian President, Nnamdi Azikiwe who was a scholar and politician, led Nigeria as its first civilian president and invited MSU faculty to join him and other Nigerians to build a land-grant model university in Eastern Nigeria. This became the University of Nigeria at Nsukka with a distinguished educational history, and was the beginnings of the MSU African Studies faculty in the country.
Michigan State University (MSU) is a public land-grant research university in East Lansing, Michigan. It was founded in 1855 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, the first of its kind in the United States. After the introduction of the Morrill Act in 1862, the state designated the college a land-grant institution in 1863, making it the first of the land-grant colleges in the United States. The university is one of the largest universities in United States in terms of enrollment and has approximately 39,176 undergraduate students and about 10,633 graduate students.

Eligibility for the Michigan State University (MSU) Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship:
- Applicants must be African undergraduate or graduate students conducting research in Africa.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program at the university.
- Awardees must be willing to return to MSU as registered students in the semester following the award.
- Applicants must have good academic standing and with demonstrated financial need.
- Applicants must successfully complete any requirements related to doing research abroad like IRB training as stated by the university.
- Fellows must write and submit a report of 3 to 5 pages to the African Studies Center within one month of their return from Africa.
Benefits of the Michigan State University (MSU) Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship:
- An amount up to $2,000 will be awarded for travel and/or fieldwork expenses in Africa.
Selection Process for the Michigan State University (MSU) Nnamdi Azikiwe International African Student Fellowship:
Winners will be selected by the African Studies Award Selection Committee with members appointed by the Center Director.
